This is how you become a student resident in Finland’s best student city!
You can submit your application as soon as your study placement is confirmed or if you are already studying at an institution in Joensuu. We require that your studies are full-time and leading to a degree. If you are under 18 years old, we need a written consent from a guardian as an attachment to your application.
Elli offers shared apartments, studios, one-bedroom apartments, and two-bedroom apartments in various parts of Joensuu.
Single applicants can apply for Elli’s shared apartments and studios. Shared apartments consist of 2–5 unfurnished or furnished rooms and are more readily available than studios. Especially in the fall, there is high demand for studios, so there may be a waiting list for them.
Those in need of larger apartments can apply for Elli’s family apartments, which consist of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. When applying for a family apartment, it is sufficient for one of the applicants to be a student. For us, a family means two applicants who want to live together.
1. Accept your study placement
You can submit a housing application to Elli as soon as you have received an acceptance decision from your educational institution or if you are already studying at an institution in Joensuu!
2. Familiarize yourself with the locations and submit a housing application
3. Accept the housing offer and sign the lease agreement
Congratulations, your student apartment is waiting for you! You will receive details about the Elli home offered to you and a request to sign the lease agreement via email.
Elli does not charge a security deposit!
In family apartments, both residents sign the agreement. If a resident is a minor, the lease agreement must also be signed by a guardian.
What are you committing to?
At the time of signing the lease agreement, you commit to complying with the law on renting a residential room, the terms of the lease agreement, and other housing-related instructions from Elli. When you sign the lease agreement, the one-month notice period takes effect immediately.
As an Elli resident, you are obligated to provide, when requested, the documents required by the municipal authorities regarding your studies, income, assets, and other relevant matters. Credit checks are conducted for all applicants.
Please note that providing incorrect information may result in the rejection of your application or the loss of the right to housing.
Also, read the terms of the lease agreement before signing it.
4. Pick up the keys to your Elli home
Moving day
Usually, the lease begins on the 1st day of the month, and you can move in on that day at the earliest. If the start date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday, the moving day is the next business day. You will receive the keys to your apartment during our office hours.
Take care of the keys
It is important to handle the keys with care. If a key is lost, we will rekey the apartment and charge the costs to the resident.
5. Carry your stuff inside and start your new student life!
All the information related to daily living is compiled in the resident’s information bank. Read, familiarize yourself, and make the most of living at Elli!
